Roadside Vegetation Clearance for AMEY Plc ...
Barge Group were informed by AMEY of the cycle path project happening on Tonbridge Road in Pembury. In order for the project to go ahead, a 1km stretch of roadside vegetation and tree removal needed to be undertaken. Highways and Structures Manager Paul, worked alongside representatives from AMEY and Kent County Council to get all necessary plans and permits in place.
With the Traffic Management installed and a safe working zone set up, Barge Group’s Highways Teams set to work removing the thick roadside vegetation. With the next contractors start date already planned, the teams worked tirelessly to get the 5000 square metre area cleared. Whilst tree climbers provided speed and efficiency for the majority of this clearance, in line with their stringent Health and Safety training and Target Zero campaign, it was the decision of Highways Manager Paul to also use a Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) to gain safe access to many trees that were deemed rotten or unsafe.
Following advice from ecologists, all logs & waste created from the clearance were either stacked or chipped back into the remaining vegetation to sustain and support local wildlife and their habitats. This resulted in a reduced carbon footprint for Barge Group who are constantly working to improve their environmental impact.
